Damien Lacroix is Director of the Biomechanics and Mechanobiology group at the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia in Barcelona. He received a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) in Lyon, France in 1996. He then moved to Dublin (Ireland) and received a PhD degree from TrinityCollege in 2001. After working for Smith & Nephew within the Biomechanics Laboratory of Toulouse (PurpanHospital), France, he was awarded a Marie-Curie TMR EU grant to work at the Technical University of Catalonia, Barcelona. He then received a ‘Ramon y Cajal’ fellowship from the Minister of Science and Technology of Spain. His main research activities are in the development of computer simulations in tissue engineering, orthopaedic biomechanics, biomaterials and mechanobiology to model implant / cell interactions at the macroscopic and microscopic levels. Damien Lacroix is a member of the ESB since 1999 and is Council member since 2004. He is an author of 27 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has participated in more than 80 conferences.
